Architectural Salvage Yard

Architectural Salvage Yard

As we all know, Junk Yards are places that we can all go to for decorating a small little place, doing little side projects, & even restoring old cars that we love. The truth is, Junk Yards can be used for so much more.

One great way to use Junk Yards is to go searching through what they have & then see if you can recycle one of their parts or just use it again for something else. In most cases, theres things like old chairs or even old tables that are made out of wood & can be used again. Some items that people throw away are things like stained glass, victorian moldings, & pretty much things that look old & seem like they cant fix it it refurbish it. If theyre not in Junk Yards & Wrecking Yards, then theyre probably at your next door neighbors garage sale. If you end up looking for something in specific that in reality, tends to be really hard to find, the place you may want to look is an Architectural Salvage Center.

What this center does is buys & sells parts for buildings that were salvaged from either destroyed or remodeled buildings. Whats great about these Centers is that you can literally find anything here; from door knobs to light bulbs to wooden doors ! Another great factor about these Architectural Salvage Yards is that sometimes the buildings were made a long time ago, which means it has antique stuff in it. Therefore, you can purchase it for cheap at a Yard, refurbish & recondition it for a couple of bucks, then sell it for more than you purchased for it; you see what Im saying? The usual parts in Junk Yards, like I said before, are things that people are too lazy to fix; which is better for you because you pick up on the money that they couldve earned.

Of course, not everything is all fine & dandy about restoring old things that you find at a demolished building. If youre one whos always busy & really has no time to take out of your schedule to restore that antique item that you bought, it may not be worth it. On the other hand, if youre like me & you like to take on little side projects whenever you have time, then this is definitely for you. I actually like to go to random garage sales whenever Im driving through a small neighborhood, see what they have, & take things home that I like so I can make it into something better & just keep it for my own personal satisfaction.

Theres nothing like knowing you made something better & prettier starting from scratch & doing it all on you own, you know? Some things that you can find at these places include antique light units, architectural parts from places like pubs & churches, old-fashioned doorknobs, hinges, cabinet handles, & even used construction materials .. even though I really dont know what youd use that for. When you go & buy these things, it may be possible to negotiate & bargain the parts that you want. If you buy the parts from a place like a historical society or charitable organization, you may want to inquire about the asking price first. If its a regular warehouse, then go ahead & work your magic.

Like I said, there are many places that have antique stuff that you can decorate your house with or just take on as a side project. All you really have to do is look for something that you really want & something that is worth fixing. Be wise.
