Arabic Translation: The Importance Of Breaking The Language Barrier

By:

Generally speaking, Arabic speaking countries are located in the Middle East, but through the years, immigration movements have brought Arabic speaking people to many different parts of the world. While the culture and language are fascinating, the Arabic language barrier can present a problem in clear communication. There are several main risks that come with having a language barrier between two cultures without a solution.
There is, of course, the obvious frustration that comes with not being understood by someone else. The frustration that comes from a language barrier can create hostile situations between two communicating parties and one partys frustration with the situation can be interpreted as that party being frustrated with other.
Another risk that is taken when the language barrier is not completely broken is running into misinformation due to the word for word translations that come from dictionaries or online language programs. When it comes to medical and legal translation servicesor interpretations or in international conferences, a simple mistake or a well meaning attempt at finding an equivalent in an Arabic/English dictionary could create an even bigger misunderstanding between the two communicating parties.
With these risks come a number of solutions to reduce, or completely eliminate them. One of the most common ways to eliminate the risks of misunderstanding and miscommunication is to hire either a translator or interpreter to relay the information to the target language. Certified translators and interpreters typically do freelance work for translation and interpretation companies and present the safest solution when it comes to multilingual communication.
Within the United States, there are certification programs for translators and interpreters in both the medical and legal fields where the professional must not only demonstrate their language skills in both languages, but also their depth of knowledge in either medical or legal terminology in both languages. These certification programs eliminate translators or interpreters who are not able to fully explain a process or term to a patient or a client when the communication is crucial.
In some cases, language barriers could mean the difference between life and death, so when in doubt, never rely on a dictionary or online translation program to perform a translation or interpretation. While these resources are very useful to a skilled translator or interpreter who is familiar with the language, they are not always accurate in the communication solutions that they present for someone who is not fluent in the language.
