Wood paneling is a means of decorating walls, ceiling, doors and also furniture with the use of different kinds of woods. It is generally done to give a warm and elegant beauty on your home, offices and even on your furniture. It has become a status symbol of excellent taste and wealth.

Wood paneling can be applied to any parts of your house, office and even on your furniture. Wood panels are very thin, about to inch only. They are made from different kinds of hardwood with clear finish or less expensive woods that can be painted or stained to resemble an expensive wood.

The usual size of a wood panel being sold in the market is 4 x 8 foot sheet. This may either have a wood veneered or a simulated wood surface. There are many types of wood paneling. There are also many ways to work with paneling. One of the common ways to work with paneling is wallpapering.

You can simply apply wallpaper to give your house a new kind of look. Here are some of the ways you can do for your paneled houses:
-First thing to do is to remove all dirt on your walls.
-Unwanted grooves can be filled with spackling or drywall compound.
-Sand the drywall with sandpaper.
-Use a latex primer to start your wall.
-Painting the walls first can make wallpapers adhere better.
-Others suggest adding a wallpaper liner using paint.
-Clean with TSP after which you can apply the paper over the paneling.
-For first timers, it is always best to research as much as you can before starting the project.

Estimate the amount of wallpaper needed. Multiply the width of the wall by its height to get the area and divide the product by fifty. The answer is the approximate size of wallpaper needed.

When planning for your layouts, keep in mind that wallpaper expands up to inch when wet or pasted. In pre-planning, start with the most visible to the less visible area. Also consider the window sills. You should have sufficient wallpaper for your window sills.

When you are hanging your wallpaper on a painted wall, put a primer first. Primers prolong the life of paints.

To hide the old wallpaper seams, lightly skim it with joint compound. Let it dry, sand and coat with wallpaper primer.

When hanging the wallpaper over paneling, you need to use liner papers. They should be pasted with heavy duty adhesives Liners need to be brushed with primers before hanging the wall covering. After priming, you may do the joints and any unleveled areas.
