Applying Makeup For Green Eyes To Make Them A Feature

For a natural look that highlights green eyes, all you need is a basic understanding of makeup application and some insights to help you make the right colour choices. Heres how to apply makeup for green eyes.

Before putting any makeup on, cleanse and tone your face. Apply a tinted moisturizer to hydrate your skin and even out its tone.

Sparingly apply an eye-makeup base to your lid using the tip of your finger or a concealer brush. This will hold your eye shadow in place. It's important to keep the application minimal, as you will be layering shadow over it. Noticeably heavy eye makeup can add age, accentuate fine lines and wrinkles, or appear costume-like, so go easy.

For green eyes, using a soft round shadow brush, sweep a soft layer of an off-white dry shadow over your lid, starting at the top of your brow bone, and zigzagging down until the lid is covered. Tap the excess shadow off the brush and use the bare brush to blend in the edges on the outside corners of your eye.

With the same brush, use a rust-coloured shadow to make a soft "C" shape on the outside of your eyelid. The rust (or other warm tone) will provide contrast with your green eyes, making them seem to pop out of your face. To apply, begin under the brow bone (where the eye socket sinks in) and push the shadow out, and then back in over the lid next to your lash line. Using back and forth motions, blend the colour so the "C" shape is filled in and the outside edges of the eye are softened.

Finally, to add glow to those sparkling green eyes, choose a fine-shimmered dusty rose quartz eye makeup, only slightly darker than the first shadow, so still fairly light. Using the same brush, dot the shadow on the inside of your eye to highlight, and then up over the lid (staying within the eye socket) and blended into the darker brown on the outside of the lid. This will help to add depth and light to your eyes, and bring the green forward.

Now to definition. Use a brown kohl pencil and feathery motions at the lash line to line your lid. If the line appears too harsh, use a flat brush with some brown shadow and smudge the line to soften it. Brown works well with green eyes, and can be more effective than the usual black or charcoal eyeliners. To accentuate your lashes, your eyeliner should be wider on the outside of your eye, and veer up slightly to a point.

No carefully crafted eye makeup is complete without mascara. For green eyes, choose a brown to black mascara and coat each lash (think warm dark brown rather than midnight black). Pay extra attention to those invisible lashes on the outside to bring them out. For shorter or straighter lashes, use an eyelash curler on the upper lashes about 30 seconds after the mascara application. This helps to open up those green eyes and removes any shadows over the eye that may be cast by your eye lashes.

Take your eyelash curler and gently press the lashes on the outside in the curler, then slowly turn them up before carefully releasing. For your lower lashes, turn the wand vertically and barely touch the lashes, just enough so they become visible, but do not overpower the upper lashes.

Repeat the process from base to mascara on the other eye. Dot a waterproof concealer under your eyes, then at the outside corners of your nose, in the indentation of your chin, and any discoloured areas.

To maximise the effect of your carefully applied makeup to highlight green eyes, the colour pallet you choose for the rest of your face also matters. Dab a peachy-coloured crme blush onto the apples of your cheeks and use your fingertips to blend it in. next, brush a light layer of a soft powder makeup over your face to set your look. Finish with a sheer lip balm in either a clear or warm gold-accented tone, for a balanced feeling of warmth.

You now have a natural look that highlights those beautiful green eyes!
