Apples New Ios Connector Is Hybrid Of Display Port/usb 3.0

Apples next-generation connector wins a patent. The next-generation connector is new type of 30-pin connector for iOS and Mac devices that could support connection to the recently debuted high-speed Thunderbolt port, as well as USB 3.0 and 2.0, according to Patently Apple. Patently Apple is speculating that this new connector will be debuted with the soon to be released new iPhone 5 or with the new Intel Mac scheduled for 2012. It will be implemented on all iOS devices, which include the iPad, iPhone and iPod lines, as well as Mac computers.

The Thunderbolt port was first introduced with the latest line of MacBook Pros. With two bi-direction channels both capable of speeds of 10GBS, according to an article by Aemon Malone, Digital Trends, Apple claims that Thunderbolt is more than 12 times faster than FireWire and 20 times faster than USB 2.0. Thunderbolt also offers native support for Mini DisplayPort and support by way of adapters for DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI, and VGA displays. Thunderbolt is also compatible with FireWire and USB devices.

What does this mean in the real world? It means that a full-length high-definition movie could be transferred between devices in only 30 seconds. Wow! Of course that doesnt mean you can download the movie in 30 seconds, but once you have it downloaded, you can transfer it between devices at an amazing speed.

The new iPhone 5 will no doubt have this new port. That may be enough to push sales to new limits! In addition, Gizmodo points out that the iPod Touch is about as thin as it could be with the current connector. With the new connector, it would make it possible to slim-down the device even further. This begs the question, How slim is too slim? Will the devices get so thin that we can slip them into our wallet like a credit card? Interesting idea?

Are you looking forward to the new Intel Mac? I am curious how it will look. I have been a PC user for years and have just recently had some experience with the Mac. I have to say I love the Mac. I will be saving my pennies to include a Mac in my lineup, especially with the new connector. What about you?
