Anyone Can Take Up Soap Making

By:

Are tired of doing the usual ways to let out your creative side such as paintings or drawings? Then you should try another method which is not very famous but will also be a good way to express your creativity. This hobby is soap making. It will be similar to making sculptures but it is very practical and it will really stimulate your mind as to how you will put your ideas into action.

First, you will need to know how to make soap before you can proceed to designing them. Oil and lye are the basic ingredients that you will need if you want to make soap from scratch. But you also have the option of using glycerin soap, which is already ready-made so that you can proceed to directly designing your soap.

Making your own soap definitely has its advantages even though it will take longer to make. You will be able to control the intrinsic properties of your soap by altering the type and amounts of oil that you put into the soap mixture. You may make harder soaps that are better for sculpting, or milder soaps if you plan to use in on your body. Glycerin soap on the other hand, will be a lot easier especially if you want to focus on designing your soap only.

One downside to making your own soap is that it involves handling lye, which is a very dangerous substance. It is very corrosive when comes into contact with bare skin, and it also emits fumes when dissolved in water. This can be very irritating to one's lungs. Be sure to always wear protective equipment when handling lye. As for children, using glycerin soap may be a better option.

When designing your soap, start off with the more basic techniques such as adding color to your soap, or giving it shape using single or multiple molds. You may also try sculpting your soaps once it is semi-hard so that it can assume the final shape that you want once it has completely hardened.

You may try different ways of designing your soap. You may try making well known structures such as the statue of liberty in making your soap, although this would require a very high level of skill. You may also choose to do simpler designs such as animals and food items. You may also combine smaller soaps to come up with a better overall design.

Due to the ease of soap making, even small children can take this up as a hobby. But due to the dangers involved in handling lye, it is recommended that children use glycerin soap as this will only need to be melted and soap designing can already be done. Children will definitely enjoy designing their soap and using them afterwards in the shower.

Soap making is really fun and easy to do, that is why people of all ages can try this hobby. You will definitely enjoy making your own designs, and it will not be much of a waste as you can still use your soaps in the bathroom for cleaning or as decorations to add to its appeal.
