You're about to go on a date and you start experiencing anxiety symptoms. You feel your throat tighten and your heart pound. Breathing becomes rapid and you feel on edge. Most people get a bit anxious meeting a person that they're attracted to. But anxiety can be a bigger problem for some people and affect them daily.

Anxiety symptoms can knock the confidence out of person and make them feel insecure and cause them to overreact. This can affect a person's ability to make friends and build intimate relationships. They might think that they're unworthy and believe that they will get rejected. Playing it too cool and showing disinterest are common self-protective actions that they might take.

An anxious person might unintentionally throw mixed signals constantly trying to control their emotions. Their actions might be jittery and clumsy and they may find it hard to make eye contact. In an attempt to evade humiliation they might put distance between themselves and their date. Usually it's their own negative thinking that puts them between a rock and a hard place and they inevitably destroy their chances of a successful date.

Most people are attracted to confidence but it doesn't mean you have to exude Hollywood star confidence. Some people look confident without even trying, they're simple relaxed when around others. If you're anxious all the time however it might indicate an anxiety disorder. Common anxiety disorders such as social phobia and agoraphobia make it extremely hard for sufferers to converse and build relationships with others.

People with an anxiety disorder are much more prone to develop conditions such as insomnia and depression. Because anxiety symptoms run into the hundreds it's unlikely that anxiety cases will look the same. Although under recognized, treatments for anxiety disorders are available. Getting therapy or treatment can ease anxiety symptoms and make life much more manageable.

Not everyone is confident and some are just timid in nature and more introvert. It's surprisingly easy to acquire confidence however with a few simple techniques. Little by little you can make positive changes to your behavior. Read lots of self help books, get tips from friends and start adopting the lifestyle and behaviors of the person you want to be. Think about what makes a person attractive and confident and work towards that.

Next time you're on a date and you experience anxiety symptoms, don't worry. Notice the sensations, accept them, and let them pass naturally. Control your breathing and relax your shoulders. Don't forget there's every bit of chance your date is nervous too so need to criticize yourself too much. If the date turns out bad, think about how you can improve for the next one.
