Anupam Kher - Acclaimed Bollywood Actor

Anupam was born in a Kashmiri Brahmin family to his father Pushkar Nath Kher and mother Dulari on 7 March 1955. Pushkar Nath worked as a clerk with the forest department in Shimla, while Dulari was a homemaker. He completed his schooling from DAV school, Shimla.

He passed out of National School of Drama, Delhi in 1978. Before stepping into Bollywood, he acted in the plays performed at Himachal Pradesh University. OM JAI JAGDISH (2002) was directed by Anupam Kher. This film was his directorial debut.

The film is based on the life of three brothers Om Batra (Anil Kapoor), Jai Batra (Fardeen Khan) and Jagdish Batra (Abhishek Bachchan) are brothers and their mother Saraswati Batra played by Waheeda Rahman.

Mahima Chaudhry (as Ayesha), Urmila Matondkar (as Neetu), Tara Sharma (as Puja), Parmeet Sethi (as Shekhar Malhotra), Annu Kapoor (as KK), Rakesh Bedi (as Ram Prasad), Raju Kher (as Giri, Neetu father), Lillete Dubey (as Neetu mother) and Achint Kaur (as Tanya, Shekhar Malhotra fiance). The film did not do well at the Box-Office because of its mediocre story line.

The film brought a comeback role for Waheeda Rehman who returned to films after 11 years since her last appearance in LAMHE (1991). This is the only film directed by Kher till now. Anupam Kher produced only two films till date. MAINE GANDHI KO NAHIN MARA (2005), directed by Jahnu Barua was produced by him.

He himself played the role of Uttam Chaudhary, a lead character of the film. It is considered as one of Kher brilliant performance. Ruslaan Mumtaaz, Sheena Shahabadi, Satish Kaushsik, Rajat Kapoor, Sushmita Mukerjee, Neena Gupta and Anupam Kher starrer TERE SANG (2009) directed by Satish Kaushik.

The film highlights the issues like teenage pregnancy, parenthood and responsibility. The film is produced under banner Karol Bagh Film and Entertainment of Anupam Kher. Maahi (Sheena Shahabadi), a fifteen years old girl and Kabir (Ruslaan Mumtaz) a 17 year old boy are the protagonist of the film.

Satish Kaushik (as Kabir Father), Sushmita Mukherjee (as Kabir Mother), Rajat Kapoor (as Maahi Father) and Neena Gupta (as Maahi Mother) are the other characters in the film. Kher also gave a special appearance in the film. Though the concept was good but it failed to gain success at the Box-Office.

Anupam Kher also hosted few television shows such as Say Na Something To Anupam Uncle, Sawaal Dus Crore Ka and the Lead India. Anupam Kher was married to Madhumalati. After few years of marriage they decided to get separated due to some personal differences.

After divorcing his spouse Madhumalati, the actor married Kirron; now know as Kirron Kher. He has one son, Sikander Kher from Kirron previous marriage. Sikander is also trying his hands on acting. Besides acting, directing and producing, Anupam Kher runs an acting school in Mumbai, called Actor Prepares, with a branch in London.

His most famous student is Deepika Padukone. In 2007, Kher along with his National School of Drama (NSD) batch mate Satish Kaushik kick started a production company Karol Bagh Productions .
