My sanctuary is filled with family photos, some are framed, some are pinned to the door with pushpins, but they all mean a lot to me. I have one magnificent old portrait, its a group shot of all our folks on a wedding day, long ago, it was almost Victorian, but maybe not. This is one that is beautifully framed; I just bought a
picture light for it, and it suits the room perfectly. I wanted an LED light set-up, because for one thing it is way energy efficient, but for another I read that the quality of light is superior to incandescent by now it is called conservation quality on the lamp I got, a House of Troy Slim-Line LED, 20 shade (my image is massive about 30 inches wide) in Antique Brass (SLED20-71).
So the Slim-Line design has been around for awhile, and youve probably seen it in your church or the bank, or some posh restaurant that has ambiance, maybe. Its a space-age look thin tube-like shade thats held up at each end by delicate (but strong) arches, and the light attaches to the back of the frame really simply. The line hangs down behind the frame, and has a switch on the cord. The cord isnt even noticeable since the picture is up behind my bureau and it glides right down. Ive heard people paint the cord, or put a small conduit around it and cover it right over. In any case, when you take the lamp out of the box you can feel its heft, its a quality piece of work. The antique brass is real brass, oxidized and hand-rubbed.
An interesting point with the LED Slim-Line models you need to buy a lamp that is 2/3 the size of your image.
I considered a more
traditional LED art light style (the TLED series), but it really was too big for the frame (it would be fine otherwise). Also, Im a bit eclectic, and the SLED was a more intuitive choice I just wanted it to be part of the frame, part of the room. The antique brass is optimum for that eclectic thing too, its the old, and the shape of the lamp is the new. And the light is warm, its not like the old LED lights at all theyve improved the LED color rendering a lot. Thats why House of Troy is coming out with over 40 new LED picture lighting options theyve mastered the technology and kept their great designs to go with it.
