Anticipation Mounts For New Tmnt Movie

By:

Cartoonists Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird were drawing in their apartment one day when they created the pop culture phenomenon inspiring heroes in a half shell, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The comic book was a parody of many of the popular subjects of comic books in the 1980s, but eventually grew to stand on its own as a story. The comic book took the world by storm when three years later it had its own animated TV series, and another three years after that, a major motion picture with special effects by the Jim Henson Creature Shop. The film was wildly popular with fans of the comic series and remains a cult classic to this day.

However, the following sequels were much less warmly received. In 2007 an animated film was made and released to mixed to positive reviews. Many felt the film did not do much to advance the story of the characters. However, in 2009, it was reported that the next film of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would be a return to live action, which has so far been met with a very positive reaction.

The question is now going out though of who will direct the new film in the franchise? Who would write it? And will the turtles themselves be live action, or computer generated? Few details currently exist, but what is known is that a form of motion capture will be used to create the turtles. It is also known that the film will be an origin story, fully retelling just how the turtles came to be, in a similar fashion to the 2005 film Batman Begins.

This could mean breaking new ground for the characters as that part of their lives have only been lightly touched on in both the comic books and the previous films. It remains to be seen if the movie will utilize well known actors in either the main roles or the supporting roles. It would be interesting to see the turtles portrayed by actual teenagers, as they have always been voiced by older voice actors and some viewers have complained that the characters never genuinely felt like teenagers.

It remains to be seen just what will be done with the iconic characters, and there is no release date yet known, but to fans of the heroes in the half shell, any bit of news is good news.
