Anti Slip Stairs Are Essential For Safety And Can Save Money

By:

Slips, trips, and falls are one of the major concerns in safety training in businesses. This training is conducted to protect the employees from injury. Not only are you concerned about the welfare of the individuals who get injured, but there is a great deal of expense when an employee is hurt. Expenses include lost work and productivity, medical payments for treatment, and sometimes even a lawsuit to defend and possibly pay out on.

Safety training has been proven to be very effective at reducing injuries. Unfortunately, not every person who enters your building is an employee who has successfully completed safety training. Moreover, you are still at risk for costly medical bills and lawsuits if any of these individuals slips, trips, or falls-especially if there is negligence in the maintenance of the location.

An area of special concern that requires extra attention is stairways. Accidents on stairs are among the leading causes of injuries. With a little attention, such as making sure stairs have anti-slip features on them, you can go a long way to prevent costly accidents.

Anti slip stairs treatments fall into two basic treatments. The first is for new stairs, and the second is for renovating old stairs.

It is easiest to build anti-slip measures into stairs when they are first being built. Depending on the area and how heavy the traffic is on the stairs, the type of materials used will be different. Some areas, such as emergency exits and stairwells used for fire escapes receive relatively light traffic. Most of the locations are indoors and can use a material that is slip resistant but doesn't need to hold up under weather.

Other locations, though, will have heavier traffic and may be located outside where they receive abuse from feet and weather both. There are anti slip materials that work with concrete, terrazzo, wooden, and steel pan cement-filled stairs.

Although it is easier to build the stairs with anti-slip material, you may not have that luxury. Fortunately, there are many anti slip products designed for stair renovation. There are options for low-traffic areas as well as high traffic areas; indoors and outdoors. You can replace old, worn anti-slip protection on stairs. In addition to regular anti-slip materials, there are things you can do to increase visibility, such as adding a strip that glows in the dark or has a different color on the sight line.

Whatever your needs are, stairs with anti-slip treatments are safer and cost effective in the long run.
