Anti Aging Treatments: Ways To Prevent Aging To Look Younger

Aging Theory

What is meant by aging? Is it a social or physiological, biological or psychological process? Aging is a multidimensional effect on all the three over a period of time. 100, 000 people die of age-related illness in the world on a day to day basis according to statistics. Many theories have been proposed to explain the etiology of aging like the telomere theory, wear and tear theory, the vital theory of aging, ageing clock theory, somatic mutation theory , auto immune theory, free radical theory, cross linkage theory, accumulative waste theory and the list goes on ….

Longevity possible

Is there a possibility to postpone the process of aging or completely prevent the process of aging? Anti aging or experimental gerontology is the branch of science dealing with the process of slowing down the process of aging and extending the life span. This can be achieved by latest scientific breakthroughs like the transplantation of non functional or malfunctioned organs, incorporation of stem cell therapy, gene therapy, collagen regeneration, repairs performed at the molecular level.

Current anti aging therapies and future prospects of research in the field of anti aging

The Paleolithic diet and caloric restriction help in anti ageing process. The free radical theory of aging suggests that anti oxidants like vitamin c, vitamin E, tocopherol lipoic acid can help in anti aging. The sirutin stimulant, Resveratrol, Selenium or zincare proven to extend life span in rodents. Hormonal therapy using HGH has been conducted in mice, which has shown an increase in life span.

Raymond Kurzweil, a transhumanist believes that "Advancements in the field of nanotechnology can help in reversing aging by the year 2030" In genetic modification or gene therapy the mutated gene causing aging can be replaced by the corrected gene, preventing aging. When catalase gene was incorporated into mice mitochondria, it increased life span by about 20 percent.

Using Epigenetics To achieve Skin Regeneration

According to the concept of Epigenetics, genes are turned off and on, in the body by environmental changes also. Some lethal genes are switched on during the later part of life. Hence researchers propose that when the lethal genes are not switched on as we age, the process of aging can be slowed down effectively. The new concept of fooling genes has emerged which has not yet been tested in any individual. According to this concept, the lethal genes which are turned on during the older part of our life can be turned off by simulating such an environmental condition.

Reversing Aging Through Cloning And Stem Cell Therapy Some researchers suggest that cloning therapeutically or use of stem cell therapy can help in production of entire body parts in future and can be used to replace the damaged parts. For example damaged collagen can be replaced, thus rejuvenating the collagen layer and the skin.

Skin Renewal With Omega 3 And Others

According to the university of Maryland Medical center, the skin can be moistened and prevented from aging by the intake of omega-3 fatty acids in salmon, anchovies and trout. Spinach, broccoli and kale can scavenge free radicals that damage the skin. Vitamin E in almonds, cashews, Brazil nuts take care of free radicals and give elasticity to skin as a way of preventing aging in people.
