Animation Studies In Norway

By:

For nearly 20 years Idefagskolen in Tonsberg has trained nearly 2000 students. For many this education has been the beginning of an exciting career and dream start in media, design and communication. Idefagskolen is a professional company whose purpose is to provide an education to those who want a practical oriented education related to current job market. All programs are one-year and vocational.

Idefagskolen is considered to be the best school for animation in Norway, and has won many student awards for their animations. Alumnus has been going on working on great Norwegian productions as for instants Max Manus and The newly released Troll hunter (2010).

The Institution has a practical approach to teaching. The school emphasizes practical work rather than lecturing in big classrooms and students studying on their own. The classrooms are purpose built to each discipline, and every department and have their teaching premises. Specialists are available on a daily basis and work closely together with the students. The teachers have their offices in the classrooms, to make sure a close contact between the students and the teachers.

The close contact and the Guidance contact between student and teacher is a strong part of Idefagskolens philosophy. Problem-solving, reflection and creative process between student and teacher, and between the students themselves are other features. Problem-based learning is a student-oriented learning situation where the professors take a role as facilitator or supervisor. The knowledge students obtain from such situations should not be forced upon by the professor. The main point of Problem-based learning at the school is to give students greater scope to take part in its development of knowledge.

The teaching is based on interaction between the teacher and students, and all solutions are discussed in the group and gives room for development for all parts. Students play an important role in sharing knowledge and to study the issue from their point of view. The final products are not a self-determining phenomenon, but a product of the work during the process.

All the programs offered start in August each year and last one year. The professors are present and available between 08.30 and 15.00 each day. The school has mandatory presence for all students. The core teaching times is 1350 school hours spread over 33 weeks. Students should expect to work some evenings during the week and sporadically on weekends- even after the professors have completed their work, the learning continues in student teams throughout. Idefagskolens staff is experts in most media disciplines. This is often reflected in the work where the interdisciplinary expertise is given to a new publication. Students will obtain knowledge into areas beyond their own.

The best learning examples are concrete projects from the private and the public sector. As a student, you learn the process from idea to finished product. This way you will be safer to master the production processes in real life. Project work is naturally to today's young people who choose vocational education to match between education and working life. In large part Idefagskolen is looking for specific tasks from the real life with real customers from the business community. Project teams established within the individual subjects, but rarely across them. Students will have the confidence that they are supported by a project coordinator from the school's faculty.
