Anger Control Trainings

By:

Anger issues are different from other psychological problems like anxiety disorder for the mere fact that it is not a mental disorder. Mental disorders often leave the sufferer in, well, suffering. Anger management problems, on the other hand, leave destruction in its wake. One similarity is the presence of irrational thought. For instance, anxiety disorder sufferers fear the next anxiety attack or have irrational fears of places or people that may trigger their anxiety attacks. Anger is the same way. When there is no longer room for anger, it goes straight up to the head and replaces rational thought; influencing behavior to become of aggressive or violent nature.

Anger needs to be controlled. But people easily mistake that for not letting anger out. They go on holding back anger until it builds up to a point that they have had enough and let it all out on one go. Keeping anger in isn't going to help. It's actually going to make things worse. With that out of the way, some people thing that anger control training is about learning how to not feel anger. Not only is this another misconception, it's also absurd. There is no human being that cannot feel anger. So what is anger control training about? Anger control is channeling your anger into something more productive. You can do it with a therapist, or you can learn it alone. Here's the pros and cons of each.

With a therapist: Undergoing psychotherapy like cognitive behavioural therapy can help you reach the desired result very fast. Cognitive behavioural therapy deals specifically with thoughts and thought patterns. Since anger follows a pattern, all the therapist needs is to gather necessary details about what exactly causes your anger. He/she will then use these information and make you realize how your emotions distort the way you see things. The only concern here is if you are willing to see a therapist and the amount of money needed.

Alone: The advantage of controlling your anger all by yourself is that, it can give you the results that you want at a faster pace. The only concern is that, it will ONLY happen if you satisfy all of these three conditions: First, accept that your problem is real. Second, you know what makes you angry. Third, you should have the determination to control what your emotions and not let anger take over you. If you can overcome all these three obstacles, you will have no problems on getting the desired results.

There's no clear advantage between doing anger control training alone from doing it with the help of a therapist. What is important is for you to take action about your anger problems and reach your goal in controlling your anger.
