Angelfish Aquariums: Maintaining Health

Angelfish aquariums can make a wonderful addition to any home or office area, this particular species are popular with fish owners because of their unique shape and colorings and they can really brighten up the room. When you are thinking about starting an angelfish aquarium, there are some important factors you should consider before beginning. As with all species of fish, angelfish require ideal living conditions so that they can thrive and remain happy and healthy, and here are a few tips that will help you to prepare your angelfish aquarium so that you can ensure good health for your fish.

The size of the angelfish aquarium is the first factor you need to take into account, if you purchase a fully grown adult angelfish, then your tank but be able to hold at least four gallons of water. If you are keeping more than one adult angelfish, then you should add another four gallons to every fish. So you will need quite a large aquarium, so before you purchase make sure you have enough space in which to keep the tank! As well as the size of the tank, you should also be able to realise what water temperature to keep the aquarium at for optimum living conditions. For angelfish that you are not planning on breeding, a temperature of 78 degrees is ideal, remember the lower the water temperature, the longer your angelfish will survive but cooler waters will also effect their growing time.

To maintain the health of your fish and for a spectacular angelfish aquarium, you should also think about the filtration system that the tank will require. Because angelfish are not very goof swimmers, you should try to avoid high flow filtration systems because this might be stressful for the fish. Instead, choose a sponge filter or an under gravel filter to avoid un-necessary stress. If you have quite a large tank, then you should opt for a small power filter as an extra supplement; remember you will still need to regularly make small water changes to keep the tank clean and the angelfish in tip top condition.

The water pH levels are important when thinking about your angelfish aquarium and their health as well. Before purchasing your fish, you should make sure to do a little bit of research so that you know exactly what the species need to survive, their water pH levels and much more. Angelfish make lovely pets, but if you are not sure about how to look after them, then you should definitely do your homework first!
