The holiday season comes near to an end with consumer spending at level that was not expected in view of the disturbed economic indicators. It also remained propitious for the internet retailers too with online shopping via android tablets, iPads, and smartphones to have set precedence.

Till the filing of this article, there were still four days to go to the end of holiday shopping season. Retailers are yet to give finishing touches to the figures. So far so wonderful.

Nov-Dec sale over internet has broken previous years record by 15 per cent, earning e-businesses more than $32 billion. Final touches are expected to add another five to six billion dollars, according to the ComScore.

One may recall that experts had pinned high hopes to the holiday season anticipating revival in consumer confidence. But, the hope was spawned side by side an apprehension of possible setback in the backdrop of eroding buying power.

All were unanimous at one point customers would be on the prowl for price benefits and hot deals were desirable catches.

Deal data trackers would probably end up with final counts at the turn of New Year. The data are to be finalized not before mid-Jan. Therefore, it is difficult to pinpoint shares of coupons or daily deal platforms in revving up online shopping frenzy.

Yet, it can safely be said that best deals must have played a key role in pushing up ecommerce revenue.

Daily deals carry with them handsome discounts of up to 90 per cent and their attractiveness in straitened times is undisputable.

Gradually, the online discount market is broadening its horizon over to divergent product categories. Foods, travel and tourism, activities, and products have come under the sharp razor of group buying.

Mobile phone usage in online shopping is seeing an uptrend. IBM Benchmark has recorded a 10 per cent rise in visits to internet shops from smartphones compared with five per cent a year ago.

However, the online retail from mobile phones was registered at nine per cent, noted the ecommerce researcher.

A deal aggregator TechBargains.com tracking the trends much like aggregation leader Yipit.com found out 58 per cent of mobile users made internet shopping although 79 per cent of them activated hot pursuits to scout daily deals and price and product comparison.

In no way, smartphones took lead over tablets that remained primary medium of online shopping followed by laptops or PCs

It was also estimated that 75 per cent used tablets while 94 per cent utilized PCs and laptops to purchase products from ecommerce outlets.

Internet retailers noticed rise in shopping via android tablets or other handheld devices in the evening when people cuddled into upholstered sofas, taking in popcorn or sipping hot coffees.

Shopping via tablet picks up in the evenings, indicating consumers are coming home from work and turning on their iPads and shopping as they watch TV, Peter Cobb, co-founder and senior vice president of eBags, told New York Times.

One can expect that e-retail industry will grow further with means of communications diversifying.
