And The Anticipation Builds! The Five Best Family Films Of 2011

By:

The new year is in full swing with spring finally in bloom. Many parents are looking for great family films that are both kid friendly but also entertaining for adults. So far, this has already been an exceptional year for movies that all the family can enjoy, and that trend appears to be continuing.

This has been the year of the sequel, which is another trend that doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon. Here are the five family films to watch for in the coming year, sure to delight both you and your kids.

1.Many kids are eagerly anticipating number one on our list and with good reason. The wild success of Disney's Cars proved that this movie had the effective formula that both Disney and Pixar have perfected. Cars 2 is going to bring some more excitement to the big screen with all the favorites from the original family film returning. The stage is set in both Europe and Asia this time around. The trailer introduces us to a very James Bond-like British Aston Martin called Finn McMissile. This movie is set for release on June 24th.

2.Shrek was an insanely popular series of movies and one that is definitely full of humor that keeps adult attention during a very child friendly film. For people who thought that the series was over, far from it. In this spin off, Puss in Boots gets his own movie. This film goes into Puss' life a bit before Shrek and explores his adventures fighting off the villain du jour, Humpty Dumpty. The film is set for release later in the year, with a November 4th date.

3.There has been a huge surge in family films bringing back some of our childhood favorites. This summer a familiar bunch of faces hits the big screen. With the August 3rd release of the Smurfs, our kids are going to be in for a treat as we introduce them to Papa Smurf and all the gang. Most of us with small children can remember this one from our own childhood and this might be a great film to offer both nostalgia and a talking point of connection between the generations.

4.For those with older children, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides brings back the swashbuckling adventures that have entertained us all. It's hard to believe that the first Pirates movie was released over a decade ago, but the series is still going strong. On Stranger Tides is a great romp as Captain Jack Sparrow, joined by Blackbeard, quest for the fountain of youth. This family film comes out on May 20th.

5.Finally, the long awaited Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 comes out on July 15th. This is part two of the finale, and the epic battle in the wizarding world will be concluded with this family film. For those who have been long awaiting the final showdown with Lord Voldemort, this film has quite a bit of anticipation behind it and movie goers are excited. Bringing back Helena Bonham Carter, Tom Felton and of course, the core cast of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, this is a must-watch.
