According to the recent report, the U.S. sales of digital camera in 2010 were 36.9 million sets, a decrease of 2.1% compared with the 37.7 million sets of the previous year. While the global sales increased 10% to 141 million sets. New product introductions and the growth of the emerging market economy helped the overall market expansion.

The top three manufacturers of the U.S. market are Canon, Nikon and Sony. But Sony has the largest increase last year. In last year Canon sold 6.98 million units of camera, a decrease of 0.8% than the previous year. The market share increased from 18.7% to 18.9%. The market share of Nikon increased from 16.4% to 16.9%. Its sales are 6.22 million units.

Sony's share rose from 14.9% to 16.3% and the sales increased from 6.8% to 6 million units. It is the largest growth of major vendors. Sony has introduced important new products including SLR. These new products have been recognized by the market and have been quite helpful for the market share increase.

Kodak ranked the fourth and its market share fell from 15% to 12.8%. Its sales are 4.72 million units, a decrease of 16.5% than the previous year. Samsung ranked the fifth and its market share increased from 6.4% to 5.7%. The sales decreased 12.9% to 2.1 million units. Panasonic ranked the sixth and its market share remains at 5.5%. The sales fell 1.1 percent to 2.03 million units. The combined shipping of other brands is 8.81 million units, an increase of 0.9% compared with the previous year.

In the November of 2010, the digital camera market of China was stable and the product pattern continued the previous trend. The sales of SLR digital cameras and the single-power ratio digital cameras continued to rise. The situation of consumer digital cameras is poor.

The consumer digital camera is developing in a richer and diversified direction. Analysts point out that Panasonic were exceeded by Samsung and its rank had a little decline. In the early November of 2010, Panasonic introduced the most compact single electronic camera GF2 and had attracted many eyes. Besides, Panasonic had also officially released the GH2, and3D stereoscopic imaging with a new lens in the Chinese market.

Through Panasonic's new strategy we can see the current business of all digital cameras put more and more investment in groups of women and other specialized groups. New product introductions and the growth of the emerging market economy helped the overall market expansion.
