Social Economic Zone widely known as SEZ has now become a major source of economic growth for India. The SEZ in India is not only aim for an economic growth but also providing highly developed infrastructure with a good financial package. Today SEZ have become a large attraction point for not only domestic but also for the foreign investment. SEZ in India has become popular from 1st November 2000 to 9th February, 2006, under provision of Foreign Trade Policy. SEZ in India is provided with a particular need of land that would be around 67,680 hectors, which further divides into two specifications or areas:

What really interests the investors or the buyers would be the aim behind the SEZ and to understand that we can refer to the Social Economic Zone, 2005, cleared by parliament on 23rd June 2005.

The main aims are mentioned below:

1) Generating more economic revenue
2) Promoting export of goods and services
3) Creating more investment options from national as well as international sources
4) Increasing employment
5) Development of infrastructure amenities

With these specified goals become common to receive numerous applications for the special economic zone needed area. It would be interesting to know that there were 531 formal applications received by the government till date to which there has been approval granted to 174 applications only.

It is important for us now to know about the application process and what happened to those applications for SEZ in India. The application is posted to the Central Government who further posts them to Board of Approval consisting of 19 members.

Special Economic Zone in India follows certain rules which are mentioned below:

1) A simple procedure to develop, maintain and operate the SEZ in India and for setting the unit and conducting business.
2) To follow a single clearance window of SEZ in India
3) Single Clearance window for the State Government and Central Government
4) Simplified Compliance process and documentation laying more of the emphases on self certifications.
