An Overview Of The Egg Donation Procedure

Egg donation is one of the most advanced and practical solution for women who face fertility problems. Egg donation camps and clinics have helped many such women to overcome their infertility all around Europe. In this article, we will study the basics about egg donation.

As the name suggests, egg donation is practically a process where fertile women donate their eggs to help the problems of fertilization. In some cases, women are paid for donating their eggs. Classification of Egg donors

Donors can be classified into three main categories, namely IVF, Designated and Undesignated.

An IVF egg donor donates her eggs and a scientific process makes sure the eggs are fertilized by a partner's sperms outside the body of the donor. The eggs which are not used in this procedure are donated to other parties in need of eggs.

Designated egg donors are those who are related to the party in some way or the other way. A designated donor can be a friend or a relative of the women in need of eggs.

Lastly, an undesignated donor is a woman who is unrelated to the party and sometimes can be paid for donating eggs to the party requiring eggs.

Egg donation procedure

Egg donation procedure is a complicated process. Not all women are allowed to donate eggs. There are certain requirements which a woman needs to fulfill before egg donation process. Donors must be between 21 to 30 years old with no medical problems. The medical background of donor's family is also checked to ensure that the egg is healthy and can be fertilized easily. Donors are made to undergo medical tests, drugs tests, infectious disease tests and psychological tests.

The egg donation process is more or less same in every egg donation clinic in Europe. When the donor gets qualified and is fit for donating eggs, a contract is drafted on the egg donor's name. This contract contains all the terms and conditions of the egg donation process. After completing the paper work, the egg donor is then matched with the egg recipient.

After the matching process, egg donation clinic will make sure that the egg donor's cycles are synchronized. Birth control pills are used for synchronizing the cycles. The donor is injected for a week or two and the condition of the donor is administered. After injections, hormones are provided so as to help the mature eggs. Eggs are then retrieved after manifesting the follicles. The egg retrieval process hardly takes 30 minutes, wherein the donor is under light anesthesia.
