An Extremely Simple Explanation Of Seo

By:

I'm just going to put this one out there. SEO is a hard skill to get a grasp of. It is quite easy to learn, but to master it is a life long commitment. There are many courses out there that will teach you SEO in the space of a few hours or so, but at the end of the day, it is only through actually putting what you know into practice, learning what works, and what doesn't, that you will get a real grasp of how it all works. So, lets get down to it. Am I going to teach you how to do good SEO today? Not really, but I am going to give you a run down of a few of the basics that you need to know at this point, and how to get your backlinks indexed.

The first thing that I really want to mention at this point is that SEO really is not a game that you set out to win at. In fact, in most niches, the end goal of your work is something that you do not win ownership of. More or less, you achieve it, and continue to compete in order to maintain it. For example, lets say that you achieve the #1 position for a keyword in Google, there are always going to be other people who are competing for this phrase, which means that achieving that number one position is only half of the process. You need to make sure that you keep that position. Lets not forget that some keywords will be completely unattainable as well, as this is more of a resource game rather than what level of experience that you have. Whilst this may be the case, remember that some lower competition keywords can also bring in a very nice income as well, and can be quite easy to win.

Keywords aside, one of the most important parts of SEO is your backlinks. Without them, there is going to be no way to demonstrate the popularity of a page to the search engines. In fact, when you strip SEO down bare, it really is a game of popularity. The more links that you have pointing to your site, the more important your site is going to appear to Google for a chosen phrase. That said, you will need to remember that this is not simply a game of numbers. The sheer fact that you have more backlinks than your competition will never guarantee you a spot higher than them for a chosen phrase. Specific websites will carry more weight than others, in particular high page rank websites, and popular blogs. Whilst you may have thousands of links, if they are all from low value websites, it will count much less than a handful of links from higher reputation websites. This is all part of the game though, and what makes this such a fun game to play.

The other thing that is very well worth understanding is that in order for your backlink building and SEO work to be worth your time, the search engines will need to be aware of any links that you have created. Unfortunately, the search engines are not psychic, and can not automatically dig out your links from the billions that are currently live. In order to do this, you simply need to generate a link from a page that is already indexed in the search engines. This simple method of backlinks indexing will save you many headaches at a later date, and will save you doing much more work than you need to.

Before I wrap this up, I want to emphasize to you the importance of implementation at all times. You see, SEO is a game that is consistently changing. The search engines change more often than anyone can count, whilst one method will work one week, it will be redundant the next. What truly makes someone an expert when it comes to SEO is their ability to track changes as they happen, and implement new methods as changes occur. Advice for you - keep implementing, keep trying and keep failing, and you will be unstoppable in the search engines.
