PBX systems are even more functional than key system and KSU-less systems, and offer more customization than the aforementioned two. A PBX central terminal controls all phone systems in the same manner that a key system does, but can do so for a substantially greater number of phones. Almost all PBX systems come with the standard features necessary for phone system operations as they pertain to large businesses. Regardless of the nature or needs of your business, you can configure PBX systems to meet the standards set by your big company. But with such a powerful commercial phone system comes a steep price, more than your usual key or KSU-less system. If you're running a large company with a high number of employees, there isn't any better choice for you than the PBX system.

There factors that will determine the size of the system you need are the number of lines and the number of extensions you will need. To define lines in the simplest way, these would be the number of outside phone lines that can be connected to your business at the same time. As for extensions, these would be necessary to connect for every handset that needs to have access to the phone system. Knowing both can give you an idea of which phone system is right for your business.
