Amusing Myths About Foods

By:

The most common misconception/ myth about food is energy adequacy means nutritional adequacy. So basically they are saying if you get a good amount of calories in your diet you are also going to have a lot of good energy.

Sorry this is completely false, for those of you who have been living of fast food and wondering why your languid days have lost some much oomph, well it is because your diet holds no nutrients. Energy is created in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), there are two ingredients that make up ATP, oxygen and glucose, but many other ingredients are needed to put them together.

Simply eating is not going to give you energy; if you want a good pump of energy you should get a well ranged diet. It is absolutely necessary that your body gets a diversity of nutrients.

Another fun myth is that someone who is starving will eat anything. That is not true, many people starve themselves all the time; in fact there are tons of people milling about in the streets right now mal-nourished and underfed.

In today's culture it is almost considered cool or trendy if you look like 80 percent of your body composition is from the skeleton. In case you didn't know on average the body is composed of 15 percent bone, 15 percent fat, 45 percent muscle, and 25 percent blood and other tissues.

So you can see the imbalance now, if someone looked like they were 80 percent bone that would only leave 20 percent of space for the other 85 percent of body that should be there. Of course not a lot of people are going to want to be 15 percent fat, but that is not at all unhealthy.

Actually, studies show that people the age of forty and above are actually healthier if they have a little more fat to cushion their bodies. So if you are a little bit bigger than others don't be too concerned because you will survive better in any sort of continued existence trial.

Lastly standard rations are not ever going to work for anybody. Look at North Korea, a huge percentage of their population suffers from cataracts and that is just because they are not getting proper nutrients.

It is the same with the FDA's RDA and food pyramid, sure it is a good guideline but you are going to know what is best for your body if you just pay attention to how you feel. Start eating right and don't listen to the crazy myths that people will tell you about living off of windshield wiper fluid.
