Amla is one of the most widely used herbs in ayurveda. It is a powerful rejuvenating herb. The Amla fruit is said to have the highest content of vitamin C than any other natural substance in nature. Amla is naturally effective and it is an antioxidant with the richest natural source of vitamin C. The fruit contains more vitamin C in natural and cytokine like substances identified as zeatin, z. riboside and z.nucleotide. Its fruit is acrid, cooling, refrigerant, diuretic and laxative.

The English name of amla: Indian gooseberry, denotes that is indigenous to India. Although all parts of the tree have medicinal value, is the fruit that is the main drug.
