Amethyst Necklaces And Rings

By:

Amethyst is a gemstone that is thought to promote healing and calm, and has a history that dates back to ancient Egypt, having been engraved in one form or another. It is for this reason that the Amethyst necklace has been seen as important in societal practices of the past, and today as well.

One of the main reasons amethysts has come through history with so much reverence is because of it's beautiful color - a deep shade of purple. As many people know, purple has long been the color of royals.

Aside from royalty, religious leaders have also found amethyst to be a proper indication of their status in society. In fact, the Catholic church used amethyst as their "Papal" stone, which they used to decorate their churches. Since amethyst, from ancient times to today, has been seen as a stone that encourages wisdom, moderation, and celibacy, priests in the Catholic religion still wear amethyst rings to this day.

Amethyst is a stone found in Canada, Brazil, Russia, India, and Sri Lanka; is very durable, and since it lasts such a long time, often becomes a precious heirloom among families. Even though it is such a hard stone, it can lose its luster from built up dirt, oil, and soap film, and so it is important to take care of your Amethyst jewelry. And like all things of a beautiful colored hue, sun rays can cause the color to fade, so protect it from the sun whenever possible.

Amethyst has a complex meaning behind it, starting with the Greeks, who believed that the stone would protect you against getting drunk. However, it is a gem that is popular today not for its ability to fight off a hangover (because it won't work like that) but for its classic and serene beauty that can be worn with nearly anything.
