By:

American Idol fever has swept the country for the past ten years. It has been felt in the Karaoke Bars in East Village with many wanna be contestants! American Idol premiered on June 11, 2002 with the first season lasting for three months with the title being won by Kelly Clarkson. Clarkson was an overnight sensation releasing her coronation song, "A Moment like This". The song broke a thirty-eight year old record for the biggest leap to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song jumped from fifty-two to number one in only one week! She held that record for five years until she broke it herself with her hit single "My Life Would Suck Without You" which jumped from ninety-seven to number one in a week! American Idol was on the map to stay.

The seasons continued and so did the raising stars. Season 2 brought us Clay Aikens, the funny little boy who endeared himself to Americans. He was best known for his stirring ballads. Two years ago he debut on Broadway in the role of Sir Robin in Monty Python's Spamalot. He quickly resigned with the performing company as Sir Robin for the following year also. He lost the winning spot to Ruben Studard in a shock to the Nation.

Season 3 brought Fantasia followed by season four's Jennifer Hudson. Season 5 was a smash year with Carrie Underwood taking the stage by storm. From her first appearance on the show, the competition began for second place. She won a plethora of awards including Breakthrough artist, Artist of the Year, Favorite Country Album three times, and Country Female Artist four times. Carried has had 15 billboard music awards, an impressive start to a recording career.

Season 5 brought us Taylor Hicks as the winner but the real winner of that year was Chris Daughtry who has brought home his own cash of awards it seemed that second place was the most lucrative.

Season 7 was the year of the David's with David Cook coroneted the winner over David Archuleta, again the sweet, humble little boy from Salt Lake City who every girl wanted to take home.

Idol has been hugely popular, for both the singers and the producers. American rallies around the contestants and makes them their own. The fever that has swept America has definitely found its way into the karaoke Bars in East Village. Everyone wants to be a star and with a little liquid courage under your belt, you too could be the star of East Village. Do not wait for America to find you go find them!
