America is not like any other nation. As responsible citizens, it is our duty and prerogative to remind our representatives of the values our nation presents. We need to make sure our actions underline our values.
The reduction of Americas sovereign credit rating from AAA to AA+ by Standard and Poors (S&P) has done some damage to the prestige of the world superpower. What makes it worse, the situation was brought by the mismanagement of the debt default issue by our elected representatives. In a bid to score points over each other, they overlooked the bigger issue at large the wellbeing of the nation itself.
The President did make a call to the citizens of the United States to write to their representatives, pressing them to reach a deal. However, it was a bit too late. Had the citizens took it upon their own to goad the senators to set aside their differences for the sake of the nation and reach a broad agreement to rid America of the rising debt, the outcome would have been different.
In fact, the duty of a citizen is beyond simply electing representatives. As a responsible citizen, one needs to keep a vigil on the actions of their representatives, reminding them of their duty whenever they veer from the path. This is where American citizens made a mistake. They left it on the elected to perform their duty, choosing just to watch in the hope that their representatives would sense what the nation expected from them and deliver. They did eventually make a decision, but just at the eleventh hour when America was at the verge of defaulting on its commitments.
America is not like any other nation. We are expected to lead the world and guard it against any kind of political or economic instability. With our military might, we are the regulator of world peace. Having one of the largest economies, we sit in the driver's seat of the world's financial system. We are not perfect, but we do fight for liberty and human rights throughout the world. For the last two centuries, we have been at the forefront of world affairs.
The Statue of Liberty stands as the symbol of our values. The great statue keeps us reminded of the virtues of justice, righteousness and mercy. It is our duty and prerogative to remind our representatives of the values the greatest symbol of our existence represents. We need to use all tools at our disposal to initiate conversation about Christian values as other nations see us as a Christian nation and the Status of Liberty as our calling card. We need to make sure at every level that our actions underline our values. Our representatives, whom we have elected to do a job for us, have to be mindful they have a huge responsibility over their shoulders.
It is high time we participate actively in shaping up our nation. We need to get out and express ourselves on the issues that are close to our heart. You can contribute on every platform available and if need be,
write your senator to begin action on their level as well. America is calling. You need to hear the call.
