Americas Three Most Breathtaking Highways

Summer is at hand, and that means the time for car journeys has arrived. You can stick to your standard path, which the family has traveled and committed to memory for years now, or you can seek out new paths. Scenic highways can offer new places, historical destinations, accessibility to bold hikes, natural beauty and old towns. Below are three of the most common scenic highways in America where you and your family can create new and permanent memories.

1. Highway 12 in Utah begins near Bryce Canyon National Park and ends just near the entrance to Capitol Reef National Park. Apart from being a connecting road between two breathtaking national parks, Highway 12 is an excellent option to see some of the best and most gracious attractions of southern Utah. As the road bends and twists through the desert area of southern Utah, visitors will be stunned by the rock formations and the ever diverse color of the sand and stone. Along Highway 12, you will be close by Escalante Petrified Forest State Park where you can look at petrified logs, dinosaur bones and marine fossils. As you get closer to Capitol Reef National Park the desert gradually starts growing and before you know it you are driving through the thriving Dixie National Forest. At the roads end you will be near Capitol Reef National Park with boundless alternatives for viewing mind-boggling rock structures, stunning mountain views and even some lakes and streams.

2. Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina/Virginia- This 469 mile parkway is a like a dream come true to road trip enthusiasts. One of the longest scenic routes in the United States, the Blue Ridge Parkway supplies drivers and passengers extraordinary view points of the surrounding Appalachian Mountains and their endless forests and wildflowers. The parkway connects two national parks, Shenandoah National Park and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. In between the two parks sit many great points of interest: camping spots, climbing trails, national landmarks, museums, wildlife, and small traveler towns. Take your time on this drive, stay the nights in local family campgrounds and make use of the historical areas as you go along. Whether spring, summer, fall or winter, the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway is deserving of a slow drive.

3. Pacific Coast Highway 1, California- When thinking of car journeys and California it is natural to think of the popular Pacific Coast Highway. The Pacific Coast Highway runs along nearly all the coastline of California and is a excellent road trip for families with small children. One of the things that make traveling through the Pacific Coast Highway so wonderful is that there are consistent tourist spots, towns, and cities that allows for exciting stops for the kids. The city of Santa Barbara as an example gives plenty of excellent parks for the kids to have fun in, shopping for anyone, and historical structures to remember the mixed Spanish and Mexican roots of California. If shops and parks don't excite you, there is always Ostrich Land where you can feed the big, impressive feathered beasts...watch their feet, they do kick. Another popular traveler stop on the Pacific Coast Highway is the Hearst Castle. Made in the image of a fine European castle, the Hearst Castle is a good family location that will excite parents and divert children with a treasure hunt. So, in addition to purely divine coastline and huge waves, the Pacific Coast Highway is one of Americas most popular vacation spots because it gives activities that everyone can appreciate.
