Sleep is the miracle that can substitute for hundreds of drugs that are sold across the counter for maintaining good health. So get plenty of it; at least 7 hours and not more than 8 hours; more can be just as harmful remember. Sleep induced by drugs is not really healthy as you may have imagined. In fact resorting to drugs for getting sleep is worse than going without sleep. But to get a good nights sleep you need to maintain a healthy lifestyle and that also means saying goodbye to alcohol first. And then, of course getting adequate exercises with a liberal dose of aerobic, weight training and games that will make your heart palpitate healthily are important too. If you are having a disorder that has been bothering you for many years than consulting a medical doctor is inevitable. Do not procrastinate, see him and find a solution.

Maintaining a routine is the key to getting good sleep. And on top of the routine should be the time you wake up. The right time to wake up is approximately the sunrise time, but nevertheless dont be too stringent about it if you are living too far away from the equator. Days and nights are not simply the same duration when you are too far away from the equator and that you need to understand. The rule is wake up the same time every day and your bodys clock would have set itself to that routine. Next be careful about the time you take dinner or your lunch during midday. Heavy dinners especially taken early in the evening can leave you wanting to go to sleep immediately only to wake up at midnight. That can break the routine you may want to build.

Give you body at least a few hours after dinner before you retire for the day. Watching horror movies, having a quarrel within the family or even with your business partner can be devastating and leave you sleepless and that again can break your routine. Once out of office or workplace keep your thoughts out and free and concentrate only on enjoying it out with your kids and spouse. What can be more inspiring and build better health than a happy day with the family? In fact sleep psychologists suggest that spending more time with your family can keep insomnia at bay.

Try getting a power nap in the afternoon, but a very brief one at that; 30 or lesser minutes. Longer sleep can help you perform better during the evening no doubt about that, but it will leave you wide away past midnight and that again is routine breaker to be avoided. Some food are also known to break sleep cycles especially spices. Use them in moderate quantities and avoid stuffing your stomach with excess of sweet meat or even cakes that have a lot of icing on the top. Grand dinners are okay, once in a while, but limit it to taking it early in the evening.

Keep your bedroom tidy and free from insects. Keep it well protected with a nylon mesh if you live in the countryside where mosquitoes and insects galore. A mosquito net is preferable to strong chemical repellants; they too are capable of disturbing your sleep. Let fresh air circulate through your home freely. If you live in hot place ensure that the air filter in the air conditioner is periodically cleaned and is free from molds. Molds are amongst the top enemies that can leave you wanting in sleep. Dress your bedroom with curtains to prevent light from flooding into your bedroom. Light, especially if from a bright source can cause your sleep pattern go bad.
