Amazing Soap Sculpture

By:

It is just an amazing example of soap sculpture. This was artistically done in Thailand, the land of famous soap sculptures. By just looking at the picture, you would never notice that it is made up of pure soap. When paint was applied, the whole sculpted thing becomes pleasing to the eyes of the many.

Soap Carving originally started with fruit and vegetable carvings. The skill of carving fruit and vegetables into stunning shapes started around 700 years back, in Sukothai. Sukothai was the original capital Thailand, located in what is now considered to be the northern sector of central Thailand. It was the capital between 1240 and 1350.

During preparations for a major Thai festivals called Loi Kratong, a servant of the King called Nang Noppamart was thinking about how she could improve on her Kratong and make it more beautiful, hoping to please his royal majesty. She chose one of her favorite flowers and used it as a base for her carving.

She then proceeded to carve a bird, which was set in a position pointing its head towards the hand carved flower. The tradition of Loi Kratong can still be witnessed today and is and Sukothai is (not surprisingly) among the best places to experience it.

Why not try this at home with yourself? Soap carving can be enjoyed at home. It is just the same with vegetable and fruit carving. However, soap carving or soap sculpture requires more care than vegetable or fruit carving because soap ingredients are more complicated than fruits or vegetables.

This unique hobby can be learned. Set your plans and be determined. All you have to buy is a big bar of soap and borrow some small carving knives. Start making your own design patiently with compassion. Before deciding to do one, know first your level of interest if this would make you happy.

Hand carved soap flowers originated in the village of Chian Rai, in Northern Thailand. The villagers started carving soaps as a hobby while they were off from working on their farms. Those carved soap flowers were then sold at the night bazaar along with various other handcrafted souvenirs.

Unlike wood carving, soap sculpture needs more soft hands to avoid accidents not on your hands but on the soap figure. You can then place your carved design in a small decorative box, or paint it if it is fine with your budget and display it in your house. Who knows, this could be your portal for small business.

A carved soap can also be an ideal gift for someone special like your parents. You can have more designs to copy if you are a beginner. Check this video tutorial links:

Now you are learning something new today. Someday you will make your own design without any references involved. It only takes patience to be get the creativity out. Smile!
