Always Kabhi Kabhi Music Review

By:

Bollywood this year is oozing with youthful euphony with the likes of F.A.L.T.U., Luv Ka the End and Pyaar Ka Punchnama, and now Always Kabhi Kabhi. Always Kabhi Kabhi is the upcoming maiden venture of eminent radio and TV personality Roshan Abbas. Starring four newcomers, Ali Fazal, Satyajeet Dubey, Zoa Morani and Giselli Monteiro in lead roles, Always Kabhi Kabhi comes from the pedigree of Shahrukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment, and is produced by the SRK's wife, Gauri. The film's music comprises of six originals and four reprises and has Pritam managing the music, while Amitabh Bhattacharya, Irfan Siddiqui, Prashant Pandey and director Roshan Abbas himself penned the lyrics.

The title track has been composed by Ashish Rego and Shree D and crooned by Bhaven Dhanak, Sanah Moidutty and Harmeet Singh. "Always Kabhi Kabhi" is a plain, light hearted, happy-go-lucky track. It is reasonably paced as it delivers a gist of the theme of the film. The song also has an unplugged version sung by Apeksha Dandekar and Vinnie Hutton. It has nominal instruments, in addition to English lyrics, is slower in pace as it leaves behind a raw sensation.

"Antenna" song is voiced by Benny Dayal, Apeksha Dandekar and Roshan Abbas. The song jumpstarts with psychedelic sounds and then progressively picks up to a hell of a song. The rendition is a magnum opus as its fresh and entertaining. It also has a remixed version called the "Reloaded: SRK Mix" that replaces Benny and Roshan and brings in KK and Anupam Amod. The song is an amazing tub thumping remix and will feature in guest appearance none other than King Khan in the film. Now thats what you call a visual treat for the masses.

Hereafter comes "School ke din", which is aimed at bringing alive school day memories. The track has vocals by Suhail Kaul and Ishq Bector. The song will get you back to school leaving behind that nostalgic feeling. This one is refreshing to the core. The song is young, consequential and pleasurable at the same time. While Suhail Kaul drives from the front, Ishq Bector adds on with his rap. This one will surely appeal to the youth.

An archetypal, rock and roll vibe kicks in with Better Not Mess with Me, a characteristic girl-power track. The track appears in two versions, one rock mix with Sunidhi Chauhan on vocals, while Shefali Alvaris is on leads for a later club mix. Sunidhi's rock version features some astounding guitar. Alvaris, instead, seems to have a voice better suited for the vibe of the number's club version, and turns in a catchy hum with the song.

The next track, Undi the Condi (It's short for 'understand the condition') continues in the modern-day rock and roll vibe of its predecessor, and brings Shaan and Aditi Singh Sharma on the mic. Its a catchy number which will connect well with the youngsters of today who live in the abbreviated world of SMSs and social networking.

The final original track on the album, Jane Kyun, sums up on a mellow and poignant note than the rest of the songs. This effortless, soaring melody appears in two versions, one called the soul version and the other called the sufi version. While Naresh Iyer sings the soul version, Shafqat Amanat Ali brings in his experience and trademark sound for the sufi version.

Overall Pritam has stuck to his forte and done a commendable job like always. The album of Always Kabhi Kabhi oozes with freshness.
