Although Its Used Its New To Me

Making the decision to buy a caravan isn't one to be taken lightly, with prices for new caravans ranging from at least 20,000GBP upwards; it truly is an investment, therefore deserving lots of thought.
The alternative is to buy used caravans; this reduces the price by varying degrees, but doesn't necessarily lower the standard of the caravan, obviously depending on what you can afford.

There are so many different makes and models of used caravan, it really is a good idea to visit a site or Holiday Park which sells used caravans to compare the models. With names such as Swift, Bayliss, Elddis to mention a few they'll be plenty to take in.

Many used caravans will still be of the same standard as when first bought, the upholstery and carpets still being in tip top condition. Prior owners tend to be very proud of their vans, considering them as a second home. Therefore taking that little bit extra care when cleaning out at the end of a holiday.

You will find that there are many sites on the internet which offer new and used caravans for sale, for example the caravan trader, which works exactly the same as the auto trader advertising for both traders and private sale. Its resources like this which can give you an accurate guide as to what you can expect your money to buy.
Other questions you might ask yourself are how many people should it sleep? What berth you choose will impact on the price, what appliances and home comforts would you expect to come as standard? For example fridge, cooker, shower? These too will affect the price, and then of course you will have thought about caravan insurance! This is something which many people overlook, caravans need insurance too, just like you would insure your home and contents just in case something happens, of course this little palace is also mobile!

If this is your first time buying, whether buying new or used caravans they will require towing, this means that you will have to take into account your cars pulling power as well as make a few alterations to your vehicle in order to get it up to towing standard, buying equipment such as tow bars, extended wing mirrors etc, will undoubtedly cost a little bit which should be incorporated into the price. The other essential thing to remember is where are you going to keep it? Have you got a driveway which it can be kept on or can you make arrangements for it to be left on site? If you don't have the room to store it then you might think about buying a static rather than a touring caravan?

Having a caravan, new or used is great fun, it is also a big step up in comfort from your traditional camping holiday, having spent many holidays in tents, enduring endless long English summer days with the heavens open, all your clothes and bedding soaked through and feeling miserable, a caravan provides a nice waterproof base to shelter in, often having some of the mod cons of home. TV for example the children can still plug in their playstations or x-box's to keep occupied whilst the showers disperse, caravanning is infinitely easily when you have a young family too. The nearest I get to tents nowadays is the caravan awning.

The other added benefit I found is that pet owners can take their dogs too! (providing campsites allow pets) trying to find a holiday that is pet friendly is quite a chore, you are limited as to where you can go, and often pay more for pet friendly accommodation. This way you can take the dog along too as many times as you like, whenever you like!

So, with a little research and time spent looking into what you could possibly achieve with your budget buying a used caravan could be the best investment you make.
