Alleviate Your Allergies By Carpet Cleaning

By:

It seems that we live in a world with more pollutants than ever before and when you suffer from allergies these contaminants seem to affect you everywhere in your environment. It doesn't seem to matter what season it is but it when you leave your home you are more often than not bombarded with allergens. The resulting side effects are a shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing and a variety of other symptoms that make everyday life uncomfortable. For this reason it is essential for any person that has allergic reactions to get relief in the comfort of their own home.

You quite often find, however, that the air we breathe in our home is not unaffected by these allergens. This would only possible if we lived in a sealed bubble with no one in or out. As it is these allergens are constantly entering our home in the air or they are being tracked in by people and pets. Consequently these allergens cause many symptoms to appear in an allergy sufferer.

There are many studies that confirm that a carpet cleaning routine done regularly will not only improve your indoor air quality but also reduce the necessity for constantly taking allergy medication. This article will reveal why a more complete cleaning routine than just vacuuming is necessary to provide allergy relief and remove the allergens from your home.

Anytime there is a discussion about allergens in your home you must be aware of your ventilation system and the part it plays in the environment of your home. Any activity in a home causes these allergens to become airborne and they are then circulated throughout your home by the ventilation system. Dust and other allergens are attracted to the carpets and furniture like a magnet and these harmful particles find an ideal resting spot in our furniture and our carpets. They are carried on our clothes and they sit on other surfaces in our home so it is virtually impossible to stop them from moving throughout the house.

The human body sheds a complete layer of skin every two to three days and this dead skin not only accumulates in our mattresses but on all surfaces in our home. Dust mites feed on the dead skin in our home and it is the droppings from these microscopic creatures that cause people with allergies to react. Every home has a collection of these dust mites consequently in order to improve your indoor air quality it is necessary to remove these dust mites from our home.

Now that you can appreciate some of the inherent problems that occur in the home I will explain why vacuuming in itself doesn't work. It is believed by some that just vacuuming a carpet is the solution but that is not sufficient to remove all the allergens from the home. While vacuums may be enough at removing the larger particles of dirt and dust they are extremely poor at removing the microscopic particles and this is what most allergens consist of. Actually, a vacuum can make it worse because once these allergens are removed from the surface of the carpet and other furnishings they are blown back into the air for the ventilation system to redistribute throughout the house.

The only real solution to improving the indoor air quality in your home is to wash the carpet frequently. It is easy to know when to wash a carpet when you have stains that you can see but because most allergens are microscopic there is no visual evidence that you can rely on to know when to wash the carpet. The only solution to improving the breathable air is to regularly perform carpet leaning and upholstery cleaning in your home. This should be done every 6 months or possibly every 3 months depending on the severity of your allergies.

Either a low moisture steam cleaning method or a dry foam carpet cleaning method are effective at removing the allergens in your home but I must caution you at not leaving too much moisture in the carpet. Most effective carpet cleaning methods that allow the carpet to dry in 2 to 3 hours are best. With carpets that take over 24 hours to completely dry there is a possibility of the formation of mold and mildew and this is extremely harmful to allergy sufferers as well as people with asthma.

Following a regular carpet cleaning routine will not only improve the air you breathe in your home but it will provide a sanctuary from the pollution in the world around us.
