Allergy Treatments

By:

The vast majority of people in the world are plagued by allergies, many of them since childhood. But it is surprising that most allergy-sufferers do not really understand what it is that causes all the trouble.

To explain it easily, an allergy is a problem with the immune system. The body recognizes tiny particles called allergens as being troublesome when they actually are not. In response to the perceived danger, a kind of white blood cells called mast cells are excessively activated, which results in many allergic symptoms which range from slight to extreme.

The most common allergens are dust, pollen, and pet dander. However, people can also have an allergic reaction to some foods or medications, or even bug bites. Symptoms from being exposed to these allergens include nose and sinus discomfort, which results in itchiness, excessive mucus secretion, and watery eyes. Also, sneezing, coughing, and wheezing are not at all unusual, and prolonged exposure to the allergen can even cause an asthmatic reaction in some people. Also, the ears can also be impacted and sore; the skin may break out in rashes or hives, and for food allergies, abdominal discomfort, throwing up, and diarrhea are all common symptoms.

But, there are a multitude of allergy remedies available to relieve these symptoms. The easiest, of course, is allergy medication, but there are also other options such as immunotherapy and herbal treatments. But it is generally best to begin with slight treatment first, before looking for more pricey treatments. Besides, for slight allergy symptoms, over the counter drugs like Tylenol, Advil, Aleve, or Motrin can treat many symptoms.

Tylenol, for example, is often connected with headache relief. But, in recent years, Tylenol released their Allergy & Sinus capsules, which may be helpful in curing a lot of of allergy symptoms. Advil also has an Allergy Sinus relief medication on the market. Aleve and Motrin actually contain chemicals that many people are allergic to. But, for those that are not allergic to them, both Aleve and Motrin may aid in lessening sinus pressure and the headaches that frequently result from it.

Because these medications might also contain allergens, there is another solution for those who are unable to take them or for those with more serious allergies, and that solution is prescription allergy medications. Allergy medicines that have been prescribed by a doctor, like Claritin or Allegra, are a lot more powerful and specially made to relieve allergy symptoms. For anyone who has used the over the counter allergy remedies but could not find relief, then prescription allergy medications might be the solution.

All in all, there are many allergy remedies to choose from, so those who are tortured by allergies either seasonally or all the time, are nearly guaranteed to find relief. While it is true that sometimes allergies fade all by themselves, that is not always the case, but luckily with many medical advances being made each day, allergies no longer have to be so vexing.
