Allergy Reducing Hvac Tips

By:

Improving your indoor air quality is an important step in improving the overall health of your family and of yourself. The air that we breathe has a direct effect on the health of our lungs and our entire bodies. If air is filled with dangerous impurities, serious health complications and illnesses can occur. It is important to take the following steps to purify the air in your home.

Allergens In Your Air

Allergies can be a frustrating and debilitating condition that can knock someone flat on their back for extended periods of time. Many allergy sufferers experience symptoms during the changing of the seasons when outdoor plants begin releasing pollen and spores. For individuals with indoor allergies, however, the battle can be year round and very frustrating. If you have allergies caused by dust or dust mites, there are certain steps you can take to purify your air and reduce the occurrence of these air impurities. While it is impossible to remove all of the dust from a living environment without high tech and expensive equipment, you can reduce the amount and help to ease your symptoms.

Scrubbing Out Your Ductwork

Sometimes, the biggest source of air impurities lie in the ductwork of the home. In older homes, ductwork sometimes has holes or other weak points where dust and debris have infiltrated the contained system of the ductwork. When dirt and dust accumulate in the ductwork, this dust will be distributed throughout your home as air travels through the ducts. By hiring a duct cleaning service, you can dramatically reduce the buildup of dust and the prevalence of dust mites that accumulate in your ducts.

If you plan on having your ducts cleaned, it is a good idea to remove the allergic family member from the home for a few days. During the ductwork cleaning process, a large amount of dust and other allergens can become airborne and can infiltrate the air quality of the home. This is also a reason why attempting to clean out your own ductwork is not a good idea. Some older houses have dangerous airborne particles, such as asbestos, which must be removed by highly qualified professionals.

Air Filtration Systems and Air Filters

Most HVAC systems have slots that are designed to accommodate an air filter of some sort. The air filter is specifically designed to remove impurities in the air that is drawn into the system. Then, when the HVAC system heats up or cools down your air, it is free of dangerous impurities, which can be distributed throughout your home and cause allergic reactions. Air filters consist of panels which are filled with a complex network of fibers and strands. These strands form a tight mesh that is able to remove a great deal of airborne impurities.

Some newer HVAC systems are specifically designed for use in homes of individuals who have serious airborne allergies. Some of the systems use water or other types of liquid to purify air and deliver cleaner air throughout your home. If you experience allergic reactions to dust or dust mites on a regular basis, you might want to consider investing in one of these allergen reducing HVAC systems.
