All The Goodies Are Outside Your Comfort Zone

By:

I want to talk a little today about the comfort zone and the uncomfort zone. You know, humans are resistant to change. It's fear-based, it's fight or flight, we're hardwired that way-and you know, for all you want to say about the culture and individual characteristics, I'll agree with that, the fact is, we are hardwired that way.

But if you want to make progress, you've got to change. You've got to go out of the comfort zone. Everything you want, all the goodies, are outside the area where you currently are. Otherwise you would have your life of fulfillment, as you would dream to have it. You have to go outside the comfort zone.

And it does feel bad. That's why they call it the comfort zone and the uncomfort zone.

So, how do you do that?

Well, one of the easiest ways is to listen to mentors. Listen to those who know, and get the scoop on it. They all felt that way, too.

It's also good to remember any time you do something that you haven't done before, it's going to feel wrong.

Hey, I can't tell you how long I've been helping people-I think probably since 1984-to get on the computer. And then, of course, it became get on the Internet. And then it became getting into an Internet business.

And you know, so many people are resistant at first, although more and more grow as time goes by, because you have to. Progress involves changing-why don't you be an early adopter? But they'll start to get on it and they'll say, "Well, I don't know...I figure at my age it's not important. I'm gonna die before I need it."

And, of course, a few years later I see them online. Guess what, they can get a better price for an airplane ticket just by doing that, right?

So when we talk about that, we recognize and embrace the uncomfort zone, because we know that anytime we're doing new things, that's when we're stretching our boundaries. That's why we talk about travel, that's why we talk about having friends of different types and nationalities, with different interests.

And that's when we talk about how you know what you want, empowering yourself to know that. Yeah, it may feel a little bit rough, it may feel a little bit weird, but that's okay.

Like my friend, Steve Bisyak said the first time he did a bungee jump-it was up there at the very top-this was important to him because he was proving his barriers did not exist. And he was leading a group of other people. He got up there, and of course he had to go first... Pretty big gulp... That was when it was still new, also, I mean you couldn't find it on the strip in Las Vegas at that time... A pretty big gulp.

He looked down, the waters were swirling, it was kind of windy... He took a big gulp of determination and said to himself, "I'd rather jump and die, than not jump at all."

When you want it that bad, when you'll do the things that you know lead to personal growth, lead to progress for you, your career, the loved ones and the legacy you leave behind-that's when you have to go into the uncomfort zone. Because you will leave a legacy, and it may be nothing...

But countless, countless millions of people may have something magnificent because you, so to speak, took the bull by the horns and created your life as you wanted it to be.

And, yes, Steven Bisyak lived... And yes, everyone who followed him, probably had the identical experience. And yes, they all lived.

But imagine how bad it would have been living with himself if he had weenied out!

Moving on what you really want, in spite of the cacophony of doubts and fears that scream and writhe when you're at the point of decision makes all the difference in the world. Either way you go, it makes you who you are.

The question is, who do you really want to be?

The fact is, all the goodies lie outside your comfort zone.
