The term fight often refers to a violent act between two or more persons as result of anger, rage, fury or opposition. It indicates a defensive action and reaction so as to gain dominance over some matter or cause. Ranging from petty arguments amongst groups of people, to the great wars among the countries, there have been many occasions where it has been used in anger.

In the majority of instances, these ensuing battles will be well regulated. However, even in the most sophisticated of wars, rules and regulations if engagement can be ignored or dispensed with.

Today fighting is considered a major sport. The wrestling championships are quite famous among the new generation. From the angle of being a sport fighting can be divided into three sections; Clinch, Ground and Stand Up.

With its roots firmly in wrestling, a clinch fight involves very close contact between the competitors. Many of these occasions also take a lead from mixed martial arts combat, and subsequently the techniques used can be similar. With kicking as well as grappling used to good effect, firm control by the referee is important to prevent things getting quickly out of control.

Much akin the previous style, the ground style of combat is also closely linked with wrestling of the past and the martial arts. Here, there is much more focus on hitting the ground and gaining control of the opponent with this as a vantage point. Very much a style which more relies on submission than striking, total body mass is not always a good thing here.

In both forms above, the opponents are charged with remaining in close proximity of each other at all times. In many forms of the styles, biting, locking of the joints and choking techniques can be incorporated. This more extreme style is certainly on the increase.

With stand up fighting, such as boxing for example, the opponents stand a distance apart from each other and exchange blows. However, in more extreme areas, kicking and so forth can also be incorporated.

Though the majority of these fight session are regulated well, they can also get violent and very rarely out of hand. Done well though, they really do demonstrate the good that can come of something overtly violent and negative.
