All About Scott Laplant

Scott LaPlant has spent the majority of the professional life working in the Information Technology field. He began his career as the IT manager at Dutchland, Inc., a full-service manufacturing and construction company that specializes in precast concrete environmental solutions. During his time there, Scott was able to make many significant contributions to the company, including helping to significantly reduce Dutchlands telephone communications costs while simultaneously improving efficiencies. For his efforts, Scott was twice awarded the companys Employee of the Month (Cultural Principals) Award. Scott left the company, however, in October 2009, to pursue new professional opportunities.

At present, he is working with the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE), which is the largest provider of higher education in the state. PASSHEs goals include preparing students at all academic levels for success in their professional and personal lives and helping to contribute to the economic, cultural and social development of the commonwealth. In his current role as PASSHEs Help Desk Manager, Scott is helping the organization to achieve its goals by working to improve customer services; his efforts have succeeded in improving the organizations communications efficiency. His responsibilities include overseeing PASSHEs entire customer service network and its IT infrastructure.

Outside of work, he continues to improve his IT skills through his membership in the Central Pennsylvania Linux Users Group (CPLUG). CPLUG is an organization for those who would like to learn more about the Linux operating system. The group is open to both IT professionals and hobbyists of all skill levels, and offers an opportunity for members to share information and to network. Linux is one of Scotts technological interests along with systems security and other emerging technologies. Scott is also pursuing his interest in sound business practices through an active membership in the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He has a substantial web presence, maintaining a personal website with a blog.

Although he is not a native of Pennsylvania, he strives to give back to the community in Elizabethtown, where he currently resides, by supporting organizations and programs such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Milagro House and the Special Olympics. Milagro House, which is based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, aims to restore the lives of homeless women and children who have been scarred by addiction, abuse and mental illness. Big Brothers Big Sisters is a youth mentoring group which has chapters all over America; the Southeastern Pennsylvania chapter is the oldest and largest such group in the state. The Special Olympics offers sports training and stages competitions for people with intellectual disabilities; its Pennsylvania chapter, which was founded in 1970, currently trains over 20,000 athletes who compete in local and state-level competitions.

Scott LaPlante was born in Escanaba, Michigan and spent his early years there. He then went on to study at the Northland Baptist Bible College in Pennsylvania before relocating to Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania to live. In his spare time, Scott likes to fish, bike, cross-country ski as well as scuba diving. He also enjoys listening to jazz as well as reading the novels of John Grisham and inspirational writer Robert Fulghum.
