Corgi specialise in making die-cast toy model cars within the Corgi Toy brand introduced by Mettoy in 1956. They became a huge hit as they were the only toy cars on the British market that had transparent plastic windows included.
It has definitely fought its place to be at the top of the market with an extensive range of vehicles, which go far beyond cars, with Corgi models of buses, aircraft, vans and replicas of famous automobiles in various films and television programmes. In the first year of trading, Corgi sold a whopping 2.75 million cars, which launched it to the top of the British market.
They also won the Queens Award To Industry and the National Association Of Toy Retailers Highest Standards Award in 1966 which are two very famous awards.
Many people refer to them as a collectable item rather than a toy, but they can be used for both recreational and display purposes. Corgi Classics Limited is the part of the company which includes vehicles from British TV such as Mr Beans Mini, Inspector Morses Jaguar and later on various ones from Enid Blytons Noddy tales.
Airfix Models are a UK manufacturer that specialise in a range of model vehicles from aircraft and ships, to cars and motorbikes, military vehicles, and dioramas and figures. They also sell various gift and themed sets as well as paint and accessories. The idea behind it is that you are given a pack for each model where you follow the instructions to construct each one from scratch.
The brand was so popular that this type of activity is now referred to as an airfix kit even if it is one made by another company. Later on they also expanded to the train sector and brought out a range of model railways. Racing cars and the Spitfire aircraft are other notable figures within the collection.
