All About Cabinet Hardware

By:

If you are looking for information on cabinet hardware, then most likely you are trying to do some home improvement, such as, putting new cabinet in the kitchen. There are two common types of cabinet hardware that are used most often: knob and pull. Some argue that the pull is most common in the house, but I think they are just about the same. I prefer the pull over the knob, but that is just my preference.

The installation procedure is very similar no matter which type you choose. However, the pull usually has one extra step because there is one more hole for you to drill, while the knob is generally one hole. That one extra hole shouldn't take more than a few extra minutes of your time.

There are hundreds of different finishes for cabinet hardware, but most people only use 3 different finishes: satin nickel, oil-rubbed bronze, stainless steel. They are all about the same price, and cabinet hardware is fairly cheap to buy in your local store. My favorite finish is the satin nickel, or some people would call it the brushed nickel. In my research, I found out that the brushed nickel is actually slightly different even though most stores would say they are the same. Brushed is more shinier finish than the satin.

Is it possible to have a cabinet without the knob or pull? Yes, you can have a cabinet without anything to pull. You can use your hand to lift it open from the sides. I have seen houses that don't use knob or pull, and that is absolutely fine since it is a personal preference.

Some finish will look better with certain colors of cabinets. If you are worried about mix and matching colors, it is best that you ask a specialist in a store, or you can look up cabinet images online to see what colors match with what finish.

You can find plenty of free videos on YouTube on how to install cabinet hardware if you are not sure how. It is a task for beginners and up, so anyone can do it. It took me no more than 30 minutes on my first time.
