Alkaline foods, alkaline drinks, and calcium are helping many people combat indigestion. Anyone who has ever experienced acid reflux or heartburn knows that fiery feeling in the chest and stomach. The problem is that the typical diet includes too many acid forming foods that cause acid buildup in the body. For example, lemon is typically thought of as being acidic, but it leaves an alkaline residue due to its mineral composition. Many nutritional advisors have recommended that a proper balance for regaining health is best achieved by maintaining a diet of about eighty percent alkaline foods and only twenty percent acid foods. For maintaining health, a diet of 40% acid foods and 60% alkaline foods is an adequate balance.
