The Algarve is a mecca for golfers. Even for the non-golfer, it still provides a gorgeous unspoilt location where fresh seafood and cheap drinks are par for the course. Accommodation rooms are plentiful for all budgets, especially if you stay on the coast, and a suntanned groom is a definite plus.

Organising a stag weekend in the Algarve may take a little more doing, but there are loads of all-inclusive packages available. These include hotel within stumbling distance of the action, shuttle bus transport to and from the airport, VIP nightclub entry to the most riotous nightclubs and even a guided pub crawl taking in four of the finest drinking locations in town. Daytime activities can be arranged along with a get down to to the biggest waterslide park in the Algarve, surfing lessons or a thunderboat ride in a supercharged jetboat across the waves. You even get a T-shirt to confirm you've been there, done that and ......worn the T-shirt.

If you're making your individual stag weekend arrangements, you can hire a private boat and take in the wonderful coastal views whilst fishing and sunbathing. Alternatively, get down to Zoomarine with a pool, dolphin show and aquarium. There is always a host of exercises on the beach to enjoy along with watersports and volleyball.

There's no doubt the finest stag nights are enjoyed in a hot sunny climate. Eat a meal with the fellas in the open air, dining on fresh seafood and Mediterranean cuisine and the groom won't want his last night of freedom to end. Wine is cheap and delicious, as is the local beer. After that, the pulsating night-life beckons. Lap dancing, stripper clubs and discos are plentiful in Albufeira.

Alternatively book a guided pub crawl with a bar guide, a complimentary shot in each of the four bars and finally queue-jump into one of the hottest strip clubs with organised VIP entry. Easy peasy.

Top Tips

Be aware that most shops are closed on Saturday afternoon and Sundays.

Chemists are able to give medical advice and supply many medications without a doctor's prescription, so try there first.

If you do not speak any Portuguese, English is more acceptable than Spanish. It is a history thing.

The best location to exchange money is at a bank, bureau de change or currency exchange machine in the street. Hotels will generally give lousy exchange rates.

Try the Portuguese vinho verde (green wine) while you're here - highly advocated.
