Alcohol And Its Effects

By:

Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant but a stimulant in smaller amounts. The main ingredient of alcohol is ethyl alcohol or invinoveritus in Latin which means in wine, there is truth. The effect of alcohol is based on its concentration in the body. Depending on the amount of alcohol intake, it alters normal body functions and the persons judgment and gait. If simultaneously taken, alcohol can greatly influence the effects of a drug, Paxil and alcohol.

Blood alcohol concentration (BAC) and alcohol effects have a positive relationship. An increase in the BAC can also increase the extent of the effects, but this may vary among individuals. After a small intake of alcohol, one can be talkative and be more confident. Once the BAC reaches a higher level, one can experience slurring of speech, impairment of visual attention, unbalanced gait, slowed reflexes and nausea and vomiting. On a high-risk state alcohol concentration, the person may experience loss of bladder control and inability to walk without assistance. Unconsciousness and inability to remember recent events may be the upshot of all these. The short-term side effects of alcohol are not permanent and go away once the level of alcohol subsides.

Grave medical crisis may result from extreme alcohol intake. Some of which are heart damage, high blood pressure and stroke, liver damage, and other diseases of the digestive system like stomach ulcers. The side effects can change ones life in a major way even if they cant experience them right away. Besides the health problems, family relationship, finances and work are also affected by too much consumption of alcohol.

In order to minimize the health risk when drinking alcohol, it is good to have a full stomach before drinking for this delays alcohol absorption. Spacing your drink with water or other non-alcoholic beverages to hydrate yourself is also good to lessen the effects of hangover. Avoid drinking alcohol concurrently with prescribed drugs especially those that have depressant effects.

At one end, alcohol can make one relaxed and cheerful. If taken in small quantity, alcohol can promote a good nights sleep. At the other end, it can lead to serious health problems, and alteration in family relations and functions in the society. Like all things, alcohol should be taken in moderation. As the famous line goes, too much of everything is bad. For additional information on alcohol and its effects, Paxil and alcohol, please see your health care provider.
