Alaska offers hundreds of thousands of square miles for sport fishing, with halibut, trout, and wild salmon among the native species. Alaska guided fishing is available for sea- and land-based expeditions, using spinning-reel or fly-fishing techniques. While many of the best areas are only accessible by plane, anglers can also find success at roadside fishing areas.

South Central Alaska Fishing Tours
You will find many popular Alaska fishing tour areas in this region, specifically the Matanuska-Susitna ("Mat-Su" to natives) Valley, located between Denali National Park and the city of Anchorage. Regional fish species include Arctic grayling, rainbow trout, landlocked salmon, Dolly Varden trout, and northern pike. The Mat-Su Convention and Visitors Bureau website lists 56 guided fishing tour operators, including:
Fishtale River Guides
Fishtale specializes in guided salmon charters, and ice-fishing trips on the Little Susitna River and Deshka rivers. Trips are three, five or eight hours long, and guests may use Fishtale's premium gear while receiving technique tips and pointers. Prices include lodging at the Agate Inn, located 40 miles north of Anchorage. Trip prices are based on a minimum of four persons.

Interior Alaska Fishing Tours

According to the "Anchorage Daily News," interior Alaska is "the area south of the Arctic Circle, north of the Alaska Range, west of Canada and (arbitrarily) east of 154 degrees west longitude." Fairbanks is the area's largest city; the entrance to Denali National Park is also located here. Well-stocked lakes, rivers, and streams are home to species such as burbot, trout, red salmon and northern pike. Guided trips are available with numerous operators, including:
Women's Flyfishing and is dedicated to teaching women and couples the art of fly-fishing in a non-competitive, relaxed environment. Students receive instruction using both heavy and lightweight fly rods, participate in fly-tying classes, and take guided trips to different areas; the program always follows catch-and-release procedures. Prices include gear, instruction, lodging, boat trips, and usually at least one guided trip by bush plane.

Northern Southeast Alaska Fishing Tours

This narrow coastal strip --- bordering British Columbia, Canada --- includes the capital, Juneau, and the towns of Sitka, Petersburg, and Ketchikan. Air taxi is the most practical way --- and many times the only way --- to navigate between communities. Saltwater fishing tours in this area are limited to six fishing lines per boat, making ocean voyages a more intimate experience than in other coastal areas of Alaska. Sport-fishing lodges include:
Sportsman's Cove Lodge
Sportsman's Cove Lodge, located on Prince of Wales Island, specializes in all-inclusive, guided trips to Alaska's "Inside Passage," which includes more than 15,000 miles of shoreline, Tongass National Forest, and Glacier Bay National Park. Guests fish from 37-foot boats with more than 140 square feet of fishing space, and stay in accommodations ranging from comfortable lodge rooms, with private baths and water views, to rental cottages suitable for families of six.
