African Market Provides Opportunity For Textile And Garment Export Business

By:

Although trade between China and African countries have become closer, but for some of China's textile and garment export business, Africa is still an emerging market. In a list of textile companies that exports to South Africa, each company's business in the market share is 1% to 2% of the total export business. Even large-scale textile export enterprises whose sales network radiated to two or three countries in Africa, the overall share is still small. Some are less than 1%.

At current the Southeast Asian countries are competing for the traditional European markets in full swing. In this case, the space of opening up African markets is concerned by the industry.

For many Chinese companies, this magical land in Africa has not opened its own mysterious mask. Because of the lack of market awareness and not enough emphasis, some textile and garment enterprises in the African market often do an agent-based business. So our textile and apparel market share in Africa is at a low level. In fact, Africa market has a huge demand for imports of textiles and clothing. Africa has 53 countries, more than 700 million people. It is the region that has the world's most diversified consumer level. However, the textile production technology in some countries in Africa is backward and very dependent on imported products.

Analysts say that Africa's economic structure is relatively simple and the manufacturing capacity is low. Daily necessities and the manufacturing and processing raw materials are all imported. "Africa's strong demand for textile and apparel provides a market base for China's textile and garment export enterprises. With African countries accelerating economic growth, consumption levels continue to rise. The market demand for imported textiles and clothing has changed from capacity to quality.

At the 109th Canton Fair held in May this year, the proportion of inquiries from Africa has improved." In the past at the Canton Fair, new clients we come into contact with were mostly from Europe, America and Japan. This year some African merchants showed a strong interest. In the 109th Canton Fair, the number of buyers from South Africa increased rapidly, an increase of 21.4%. In the textile and clothing exhibition, the export turnover of the African market reached 90 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 2.5 percent over the previous.

Africa's growth potential is self-evident. But when faced with unfamiliar market environment, careful analysis of market characteristics and market changes is a compulsory homework for all exporters.
