Port Augusta is considered a central point on the way to many areas of Australia including the Outback, the Flinders Ranges, Western Australia and Central Australia. The Eyre Highway is the main route linking South and Western Australia and it is otherwise known as National
Highway One. It was named for the explorer who was first to cross the Nullarbor, Edward John Eyre. As many highways do, it receives a name change once it reaches Port Augusta, being known then as Port Wakefield Road right through to Adelaide.
Port Augusta is an attractive city in its own right and offers many water-based activities such as great fishing and boating as well as other tourist attractions.
Port Augusta accommodation is also quite affordable and offers much variety to choose from. Port Augusta motels are one of the most popular options as they usually offer free broadband access and other luxuries such as spas.
There are many walking tracks in and around Port Augusta and other smaller towns nearby that include mountain lookouts and deep gorges where wildlife and flora abound. You may have to drive some few kilometres to get to some of these but the effort is worthwhile, especially when you have a comfortable motel room to come back to at the end of the day.
Booking affordable accommodation means you can have a little more to spend on other treats such as dining out, boat charter or adventure tours, so you are sure to enjoy your stay at
Port Augusta Motels. While you are there, dont forget to take the tourist trail around the city so that you see historic sights and other attractions. The Wadlata Outback Centre, Homestead Park Pioneer Museum and the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Gardens are just some of the places to visit. And for scenic drives you cannot go past the Pichi Richi Pass and Hancocks Lookout.
