What is Adware?
Adware is one of the largest headaches for computer users today. This type of software doesn't spy on you or anything quite like that - instead, it covers your screen in ads, usually through pop-ups, even when you aren't connected to the Internet!
Adware is free software. It usually just installs itself onto your computer and sits there in the background, without you even knowing that it has happened.
Why do they do it?
It is usually attached to software packages to help the developers recover their development costs. Remember, there is no such thing as a free lunch!
What does it do?
It's mainly nuisance value. Every time you browse the net, or work on your computer, those pesky pop-ups appear, advertising all sorts of things that you don't want, and delaying you from doing what you were doing. What a pain.
Adware can slow the performance of your computer, and can display offensive or inappropriate material at the most inappropriate times.
Whilst it would be rare for a single adware program to severely damage your system, it is possible for a portal (a cyber gate, if you like) to be established, which could open the way for multiple adware programs to enter. This could have a significant effect on the performance of your system, and once established, may even prevent you from downloading the very software you need to rid yourself of the problem. Sneaky eh?
How can it be stopped?
Fortunately, there's an answer to this problem.
Consider installing adware removal software. These come in various forms. Some are free, but generally speaking they don't offer the performance or protection of a good quality program that may cost you a few dollars.
