Advantages Of Buying A Used Car From A Dealership

For those of you that decide to buy a used car from a private seller, I imagine that this decision may have been made with price in mind.

But while it may seem that you may have bought a bargain, there are considerably less guarantees than when choosing to buy from a registered used car dealer.

In such a competitive market, many dealers are now beating the prices of private seller, at least they are when you take into account all the extras that come with buying from a main used car dealership.

Dealers will give you a warranty, they will have a more informed background of the vehicle that you have chosen, and they also have a reputation to maintain, so the service that you will receive should be excellent.

One of the main reasons that you should choose to buy from a registered used car garage, is that you are protected by numerous legislations, one of which is the sale of goods act. This law means that the seller must prove that they have to right to sell the vehicle, that there is no outstanding finance, and that the car is not stolen, if you were to purchase from a private seller and any of these were to be true, then even if you had paid the money for the car, you will not automatically own the car! Remember when buying private, No rights, meaning that you could have bought a complete heap of junk, and you would have no legal recourse!

Secondly this law also states that the used car must be exactly as described, therefore if the car is said to have air conditioning, CD player etc., then these must not only exist, they must be in full working order.

Buying a used car from a dealership will bypass most of the pitfalls associated when buying privately. Every used car in a dealership will have gone through their own process before selling, and will also come with such things as:

A full HPI check, guaranteeing the background and history. This will highlight any outstanding finance.

A full AA or RAC, or garage equivalent for example used Citroens are Citroen Select approved, used Peugeots are Blue Lion approved. This will highlight any mechanical defects.

The vehicle should come with a warranty, this could be anything from 3 months up to 12 months.

Most dealers will be FSA regulated, allowing you to take out finance on your chosen used car, with peace of mind that they are using approved lending companies, and allowing you to extend your budget.

A full valet, ensuring that your car will be delivered looking like new!

Thus providing peace of mind that the used car you are purchasing will be road worthy and legal.

Other benefits with buying from a dealership are that most of the Brand Manufacturers will have an interlinked system giving them access to a national used car website. Allowing them to search nationwide to find the exact car that you are looking for, the sales executive can enter into the system your exact requirements make, model, colour, even the added extras that you may be interested in such as leather, climate control, parking sensors and even wheel size!

This will allow you to widen your search and allow you to purchase a car that may be miles away and with the dealership taking away the hassle of delivery.

Dealers will also be able to take your old car as part exchange, making the switch smoother, they will deal with all the relevant paperwork that would be involved with this option.

When buying a used car it is also important to take the car for a test drive, when doing this at a dealership you can rest assured that you will be testing the used car fully insured, allowing you to really take the car for a good drive and test, this will not be the case when testing the car privately, so be warned!

Buying a used car can be long, time consuming, infuriating and unfortunately sometimes costly.

So ask yourself, is it really worth the hassle buying a used car privately?
