Advantages And Disadvantages Of Buying New, Used, Or Refurbished Commercial Truck Parts

By:

When you are looking for commercial truck parts, you have three basic options. You can buy new, buy used, or buy refurbished. There are advantages and disadvantages to each.

New Truck Parts

Whether you are buying Navistar parts or other types, you want the best for your truck. You can buy new. These will be guaranteed by the manufacturer to fit the specific make, model, and year of your rig, either tractor or trailer. When you purchase new, you are receiving a guarantee from the manufacturer that the part is in the same condition as the ones that were originally on the truck when it was manufactured.

The main disadvantage of buying new parts is the cost. They are more expensive than their used or refurbished counter-parts. Another disadvantage may the time length required to obtain the part. If they are not in stock and need to be shipped in, then it can cause costly delays. Still, for some, this may be the most preferred choice.

Used Truck Parts

For some, it may be preferable to purchase used. Used are those that are taken off of an old vehicle and sold. Often when a truck or trailer is worn out or damaged beyond repair in an accident, there are still excellent parts on the rig. This can be especially true if some were replaced shortly before an accident occurred and the accident did not impact that particular part. The main advantage of buying used is the cost. Used parts are the least expensive to buy.

The main disadvantage to used stuff includes the very fact that they are used. You have no guarantee as to the condition of the part when you receive it. You don't know what wear and tear it received before you bought it; therefore, you will have no idea as to how long the part will last.

Refurbished Parts

The third option for commercial parts is refurbished. These kinds are a combination of old and new. The casing of a refurbished part is a used part in good quality. All moving parts, though, are new. Refurbished ones have a guarantee of quality that comes with them, too. One of the main advantages for refurbished is that the cost is much lower than new. Disadvantages may include immediate availability when you need it.
