The durability of TDK LTO3 tape has been further improved by the inclusion of new mechanisms of TDC binder and electron beam EB binder. TDK has developed 2 new types of binders for the LTO 3 tape format. These binders are TDC (three dimensional compounds) thermo-setting & EB (electron beam curing). Magnetic material is used for coating the upper layer of the TDK ultrium-3 tape reel while on the other hand the lower layer of tape reel is made from non-magnetic material. These two binders help to form a robust and durable molecular structure between the lower & upper coating layers of high capacity TDK LTO3 media. A special leader pin is added to the tape cartridges by TDK which is very useful when the tape drive access the tape media. This leader pin ensures exceptional mechanical stability. The leader pin helps to elevate the degree to 1/5th the standards specifications aberration while the reel drums circular precision is realized 1/4th below the standard specifications. The function of the reel drum is to wind the media tape.
